South in Favor of Progressive in Indiana North
The Chicago Tribune tests the Republican presidential nomination in the south, showing Bourbon conservatives and anti-Taft sentiment among about 10 percent of 607 votes. Taft leads with 358 first choices. Roosevelt eliminated, Hughes gains, and conservative candidates fare better when second and third choices are counted. The south shows less unified Roosevelt support due to factional offends, office jobs, and a desire for stability.
