John M Butler Dies. Indiana’s Leading Corporation Lawyer
John M Butler, renowned Indiana corporation lawyer and self made man, died Sunday at the Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York City from heart disease and Bright’s disease after months of ill health. Born Sept 17, 1834 in Evansville, he rose from clerk to Crawfordsville lawyer, joined by Jos EB McDonald in Indianapolis, built a renowned practice, and shaped city streetcar settlement. A Republican with limited politics, he married Sue Jennison in 1852 and left two children, Morris Butler and Mrs. Alpheus Snow. Funeral set at Second Presbyterian Church with private Crown Hill interment.
