In Sparked Ga on Sept 13 a would be executioner Ella Hall Parker, daughter of Marshal W A Hynds, pleads to perform the hanging of Betsy Bryant who killed her father. Refused, she watched as the trap was sprung and the rope cut, then claimed the hangman's knot.

In Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania a mob of foreigners attacked 15 bricklayers believed to be nonunion. Several workers were injured including Frank Staniel who was fatally hurt.

City Hospital ends the smallpox pavilion after no new cases are found. Since Oct 10 1901 the unit treated 285 patients with a single fatality, Frank Dupeey, who contracted the disease a second time, a rare occurrence with his first attack during the Civil War.
