Sept 13 dispatches report President McKinley conscious after a physician administered a hypodermic stimulant. Governors and senators travel by special train to Buffalo as the nation watches, with Indiana day activities in doubt and the stock market tumbling on alarm over the president's condition.
At 8 40 Mr Milburn said surgeons finished their exam and are in consultation. He cautioned the outlook is dark but suggested there may still be a fighting chance.
