The Iron Hall convention opened at 9 30 a m with James G Young presiding as he denounced attempts to muzzle the press. Delegates debated receivership, reforms, and the conduct of Supreme Justice Somerby while plans formed to appoint committees and set future sessions.
The Street Railway Employes National Convention opened in Mansur hall with Samuel Gompers presiding. D M Callahan of New Orleans was named permanent chairman and John P Riggs of Indianapolis temporary secretary. A credentials report approved, a constitution committee named, and no further business of note. The gathering may relocate HQ to Indianapolis.

In St. Louis on September 18 an eight ton motor car left the track on the Union depot line and overturned. One man was killed and 15 injured, many seriously.
The 10 year old daughter of George Fultz sobbed as she testified against her father in police court. Fultz, arrested in West Newton on accusations of family mistreatment, sought a continuance claiming witnesses from Martinsville. He was sent to the grand jury with bond set at 5000 dollars.
