A ferocious Wednesday morning storm drenched Indianapolis with the heaviest rainfall in memory. Floodwaters surged along Pogue's Run, inundating basements and streets, washing away sewers, halting streetcars, and triggering widespread property damage across the South and wholesale districts.
Damage from the storm flooded cellars and street areas across the town. The post office mailing room leaked but mail pouches were saved despite rain at night. Ditch banks held back water while streets, curbstones, streetscar tracks, and nearby properties suffered various degrees of damage including cellars, bakeries, and stores.
Emil Fertig was found guilty by Judge Stubbs of violating a law that protects workers from discharge for union membership. William Hathaway, a painter, lost his job July 31 and filed charges. Fertig was fined 25 and costs, and appealed to the criminal court.
James Pad dock of Warwick Orange county New York was taken from his room in the Northwestern hotel on Wednesday unconscious from escaping gas. He had little money a loaded revolver and a silver watch. He will probably recover and be held for attempting death by own action.

In Hendricks circuit court on Wednesday morning the murder case of the state of Indiana vs Reverend William E. Hinshaw opened before a packed courtroom. Hinshaw appeared calm, smiling at times, and asserted confidence in an acquittal as his brother Ellsworth Hinshaw and others observed.

Richards, 50, from Hamilton County, has denied knowledge of the quarrel. Coroner’s inquest and autopsy followed. Dunihoo's body to be buried in New Albany.
Greencastle Indiana on September 4 John Potter a hotel clerk who embezzled 3156 from the Commercial hotel was sentenced Wednesday to one year in jail and fined an amount not specified in the brief report.
