Runaway Horse Attack at Labor Day Parade
A runaway horse attached to an open-top buggy panicked crowds on Washington Street near the courthouse during the Labor Day parade. Freddie Smith aged 10 and several others were injured, including Allie Dennis 9 Edgar Swigert 10 Charley Miller 18 and an unknown woman Mrs Maria Walters. Patrolman Mathy helped stop the horse as crowds fled. Henry Aukenbrock 10 was later saved from under the horse by Adolph Meyers to avoid instant death. he suffered serious injuries and was taken to Navin's drug store and then examined by Dr. Stew.
