Councilman Higgins appeared at the courthouse amid indecision about testifying as the grand jury investigates the Wilhelm murder. Indictments against Higgins are expected, with several counts, while the jury also takes up other work.
At 10 33 a m Tuesday Prosecutor Pugh was seen in his private office preparing a grand jury indictment. He admitted being engaged but declined to reveal whose name would be inserted. It is believed to involve Higgins, the only completed case this session.
William Linderman aged 15 was jumping on and off street cars Monday night when an encounter with a stock yards car at West and McCauley streets left him with a broken arm and a gash over his eye. He was taken to Dr. Rhodes for treatment.
Gov. Mount telegraphs President McKinley that after six weeks of active campaigning in Indiana he believes his plurality in the state will exceed that of 1896. The message, dated Tuesday, highlights mounting support and signals a stronger Republican showing in Indiana.
Cornelius L. Alvord Jr. fled to Boston after a seven hundred thousand dollar defalcation and spent a night in police custody. Ex congressman Barrett will claim a five thousand dollar reward. He says Cowan would cancel orders for cars if Democrats win and adds that fear of government by injunction and the railway pooling bill shapes Cowans opposition. He demands penalties for corporate bosses who coerce workers and argues law should limit such power.
