A Hudson river wreck after a New York Central State Express plunged from an embankment near Garrison. At least twenty dead and eighteen injured, many drowned as survivors escaped by wreckage and tugboats. The disaster followed a rare river flood and a dry track prior to the crash.
Garrison New York October 25. Rain drenched workers at the site of Sunday's railroad disaster as crews repaired tracks. About 150 men labored to clear and shift submerged cars and engine while crowds looked on. A 60 foot section of road-bed near the river washed away.

Mrs Carl W Griffith of 446 Canpito Avenue suffered severe burns when an alcohol lamp exploded during a vapor bath ten days ago. Her skin peeled in large portions and she lay between life and death after the blast was heard downstairs and an employee found her in the tub screaming in pain. She had been in poor health and the shock threatened immediate death.
James Grigsby aged 9 weeks short of 107, long remembered as oldest man in Indianapolis, died Monday at 9 am at 1208 Southeastern Ave. He kept his mind sharp to the end and had gardened 300 celery plants behind his house. He contracted pneumonia after a rain while inspecting his crops. Survived by his 88 year old wife. Born Oct 16 1802 in Manchester Icky he came to Marion County in 1823. He helped build bridges and the old state house, and spent time splitting rails for a silver watch. He leaves three children 14 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Forecast: warmer and fair through Tuesday across Indianapolis.
Three Mohawk men William Tuttle Joseph Tuttle and Washington Kirby were killed when a fast freight train struck their wagon at the Oaklandon crossing Sunday afternoon. The men warned by bystanders attempted to cross but were fatally crushed. the coroner’s verdict is expected to absolve the railway.
