Prosecutor Pugh won a court order for a special grand jury session to investigate alleged bribery involving Higgins. Judge Alford granted the special session, with the panel to convene Friday at 9 a.m. Councilman Higgins and others deny wrongdoing. officials say no offers or bribes were made to the streetcar firm.
Eddie Carroll of Chicago and Timothy Lenihan alias Ferreter of Lafayette were arrested Tuesday night at Union Station by Detectives Asch and Griffin. They are identified as professional vagrants and, according to Lenihan, his brother mugged a cop in the past and he planned to kill one. Detectives report Chicago-origin burglary suspects commonly ride trains bound for Indianapolis, prompting Capt. Kinney to publicize photos and share records with large cities to block their movement.
Wednesday, Mrs. Irah Hulsizer of Clermont filed two circuit court suits. One seeks a divorce from Dr. Elmer E and the other for $10,000 damages from Alice Baker for alleged alienation of her husband's affections. The couple married in 1888 and lived together 12 years until Elmer met Baker, then Mrs. Brown. The suit says Baker, a saleswoman in a prominent store, caused neglect of practice and rumors spread in sewing circles.
A judgment of $12,000 for personal damages from a 1896 wreck at Storrs C was appealed to the supreme court from Jennings circuit court. Thomas E.
