Little Badle of Yosemite Indians Given Christian Name
In Los Angeles on October 3 a Yosemite valley heiress, Little Badle, granddaughter of sachem Tenelya, was christened by a priest and given a civilized name. She comes from a royal line new to Christianity, with early white explorers M. Bean and Geo Crenshaw entering the valley in March 1851. Tenelya initially guided them then warred against later intruders before his capture. Little Badle is cherished, living at the base of El Capitan near the Three Brothers and Grizzly Peak, with the valley’s famed red cliffs framing her upbringing.
