Charles A. Korbly, seeking re election to Congress, refused to discuss his record in a Ninth ward Democratic club meeting. He attacked opponent Binton A. Cox over the local option bill and postal savings bank vote, while John W. Kesling urged Kern for the Senate and Beveridge support. Rallies and party lines followed as boundaries for precincts were set by county leaders pending court review.
The A H Andrews Company of Chicago won the city hall grille and permanent fixture contract with a bid of 14152, above the architect's 13500 estimate. Other bidders included Newton Hoitcom of Chicago at 14595 and Aetna Cabinet in Indianapolis at 15550.

Rhode Island Senator Nelson W. Aldrich, aged 70 plus, was struck by a car and possibly a taxicab near Madison and Sixtieth streets, then wandered to a grocer and later his son’s home. Doctors say shock and age complications risk. reporters assaulted while seeking details. condition reported as serious but improving by Friday afternoon.
The seventeenth great council of Pocahontas Degree elected officers and initiated a class of candidates at the Propylaceum. Officers named include Great Pocahontas Nina Diggs Mancle, Great Wenonah Stella Bird Cambridge City, Great Minnehaha Lizzie Arbuckle Kokomo, Great Keeper of Records Pearl Thornburg Daleville, Great Keeper of Watpum Mary Feague Indianapolis, Great Prophetess Lulu Beach Elwood, with trustees Anna Atmore Terre Haute, Nettie Limeburner Eaton, and Julia Kerr Indianapolis. The lodge reports 18,965 members, up 335 this year.
Washington Oct 21 The federal court jurisdiction argument in the New York World libel case was filed in the supreme court with the government appealing the quashing of the indictment. Attorneys for the World also filed a brief in the matter.
New York Mayor Gaynor starts a police department overhaul by accepting resignations of Commissioner Baker and two deputies. James C. Cropsey becomes commissioner, Clement J. Driscoll and William J. Flynn appointed as deputies, following the reshuffle.
A relief party left Haileybury Ontario to locate the balloon Germania from a St Louis international race after reports it descended near Ville Marie on the uncharted northern Quebec edge. The craft passed over Lake Timiskaming and was seen low, sparking curiosity and fear among locals and workers.
Officials of the Aero club of America say American balloon speed records may have fallen by more than 400 miles and the world record by similar margins in an international race that began from St. Louis. The three balloons, America I, Germania, and another, remain unreported as of Friday morning.
Helvetia the St Louis balloon landed on a northern Quebec farm near St Isidore eighteen miles from Ville Marie. Aerohants arrived in Ville Marie Thursday night and left Friday morning by boat to catch the Mattawa train for Montres. Distance from St Louis to landing spot about 1200 miles.
Bicycle policemen Simon and Rademacher aided watchman Simuel Dean after a window cut a major artery at Central Supply. Workmen tied twine but bleeding continued until cops used a stick in a handkerchief to stop the flow. Ambulance arrival was delayed.
On the steamship Comus from New Orleans a Cuban hurricane tore at sea as waves rose to mountains and winds neared one hundred miles an hour. Actress Mrs Rene Cooper of Chicago comforted steerage passengers by singing hymns, their prayers mingling with gratitude as the ship reached port four days overdue.
The Louisiana wreck off Sombrero reef in the Cuban hurricane left 93 crew aboard the ship with the captain. The Forward brought 200 passengers to Key West and returned to the wreck, while 347 other passengers were rescued inland on Friday.

Charles Murray and Carl Fletcher were released Friday after proving an alibi that cleared them of loitering and burglary charges. At about 4 am Sunday Mrs. Maurice Scanlan woke to a burglar and her husband spotted the intruder fleeing. Murray and Fletcher later returned loot to the Scanlan home and were arrested after detectives connected Murray to a girls’ party, but the girls confirmed his alibi aligning with the reported time.
Sedalia Missouri dispatch reports orders to strike in sympathy with machinists and boilermakers prompt workers at Missouri Pacific shops to quit at 10 o clock Friday morning. Representatives gathered in the area as the strike spreads to boilermakers, blacksmiths, sheet metalworkers.
Grand Rapids Michigan October 21 Crazed with grief over the murder of Stanley Ketchel Miss Jewell Bovine the fiancee attempted four times since the funeral to take poison. She raised a vial of carbolic acid to her mouth on a carriage return from the funeral and was stayed by her sister and by R P Dickerson who had blocked attempts before. She says she hears the voice of Ketchel murmuring in her ear.

A thousand men greeted Senator Beveridge in Portland Indiana after a sixty mile auto ride from Ft Wayne.
