In Philadelphia the P and R iron and coal company withdraws its Oct 3 notice and suspends the sliding scale. It will pay a 10 percent wage advance to April 1 1961 and discuss miners grievances. Other operators in conference with P and R plan to grant miners demands.
The Local Bosses push a plan to clean out the old state ditch as a new democratic tactic to influence pre election voters. The Board of Public Works found the area needs work and a council appropriation may be requested. Funds in sewer and street repair accounts are discussed as possible payroll sources.
Forecast covers Indianapolis and vicinity for the 36 hours ending 6 p.m. Oct 18. Expect fair weather Wednesday night and Thursday. Temperatures rise from 39 at 7 a.m. to 56 at noon and 60 by 2 p.m.

Mrs Fish of Chicago, daughter of the late Warren Tate, claims a promise from Mrs Tate to provide for her after her death. Myrtle Johnson appeared before Judge Daly on a robbery charge brought by Danville farmer William E. Hinton. Hinton claimed she stole $100 from him in the Atlantic Beer Garden Tuesday night while both were drinking. A search found $50 on Myrtle. she says it came from her building and loan savings. Myrtle has prior arrests but no convictions, and Hinton was jailed for drunkenness. Myrtle was fined $25 and costs for loitering. Hinton paid $10 and costs.

Gov. Roosevelt told 3,000 in Delaware on October 17 that Bryanism manifests as Crokerism in New York, Altgeldism in Illinois, Pettigrewism in South Dakota, Goebelism in Kentucky, and Aguinaldoism in the Philippines. He accused supporters of political rivalries of corrupting aims and praised democratic majorities in rallies at Upper Sandusky and Marion.
The Times Brussels dispatch reports Kruger to depart on Gelderland and undertake a circular tour of European capitals. The Transvaal agency suggests he may also visit President McKinley in the United States.
Lord Roberts reports several skirmishes with Boer forces resulting in 18 Boers killed. A British detachment was forced to retreat, with three killed and four wounded. The Boer commander’s brother Louis Botha surrendered at Volksrust.
Georgetown Kentucky October 17. Judge Cantril opened court at 9 a m. in the Youtsey case. Dr Knox said Youtsey is better, slept well Tuesday night, showed no demonstr ation of lockjaw, and his general condition is greatly improved.
In Maysville Kentucky on October 17 twelve jurors were sworn in the Ferrell case. Prosecutor Robinson outlined the state's case briefly from Ferrell's confession. Attorney Cameron said mental derangement will be shown.
The schooner Gen Sheridan of Perth Amboy N J carrying drain pipe to Boston ran aground on a bar off Highland Point. The vessel was total loss but the crew were rescued in a thrilling effort by life savers aided by the life gun.
Chicago on Tuesday reported multiple deaths including Mrs Beasie Goldstein killed by an electric car. Peter Sorenson crushed in a shaft at his workplace. John Yeck Annie Mackowski and 12 year old John Canan killed by trains on separate railroads.
Joseph Gaalema was arrested Wednesday morning by Ly Detect ives Holtz and Morgan for breaking into the German-American club and stealing 1,000 loaded gun shells. He confessed he intended to use them to hunt St Mire Helen Ford, daughter of Dr J H Ford of 179 Woodruff Place, who was knocked down by a wheelman on Massachusetts Avenue. her condition improved and recovery viewed as likely.
William Miner 32 colored of 1428 Martindale Ave was arrested Wednesday on charges of aiding in a criminal operation linked to Lulu Thomas who works at 1515 N Pennsylvania St. The newborn body was found under a house at that address days earlier. Miner admits buying drugs for the young woman. he is married and worked at W H Coburn's home where Lulu was employed. her parents live nearby on Martindale Ave. she has been ill two days with potential relapse feared.
The Grand council of Royal and Select Masters of Indiana adjourned after installing officers. The Grand chapter met with about 150 delegates and continued sessions Thursday. Grand High Priest Thomas R. Marshall read the address and noted settlement of the Aurora chapter jurisdiction issue. A new Eden chapter dispensation was issued. Treasurer Martin H. Rice reported a balance of 4126.73 and Grand Secretary William H. Smythe said 12 year receipts totaled 37514.57.
The Board of Works on Wednesday took final action authorizing improvements on Market Street from Brush to Greeley and along Brush Street from Washington to a point 434.3 feet north, constructing gravel roadways.
Deputy city attorney Joseph E. Bell argues Higgins may be impeached and expelled under the city charter. He notes two thirds vote is required, with 11 of 21 councilmen Republican and three Democrats needed to join for removal. Bell says council could judge disability to perform duties without court restraint.
Senator Hanna toured Pettigrew country meeting crowds in Aberdeen and Northville. Cowboys handed out leaflets claiming Hanna’s title was clouded while schoolboys wore oversized Bryan and Pettigrew badges. Hanna denounced Bryan and Altgeld and pledged farm prosperity if Republicans stay in power.
The Consumers' Gas Trust Company directors have not met and no attention has been paid to the demand for the company's books by the special city council investigating committee. Chairman Keller said the committee has power to examine the books and the company will be compelled to deliver them sooner or later.
A fire Tuesday night partially destroyed a residence at 015 Cornell Avenue, caused by two defective fuel sources. The home suffered significant damage as investigators assess the scene.
