Washington October 13 The ratification of the peace treaty between Russia and Japan will occur Saturday. The treaty will be signed and ratified by the mikado in Tokyo and by the czar in St. Petersburg, communicated by telegraph to both governments through the American embassy at St. Petersburg and the French legation in Tokyo.
A. Barker, a collector, appeared in criminal court on Friday charged with carrying a revolver and threatening to draw it on John A. Puryear, a colored transfer man. Barker testified Puryear attacked him with a chair during a scuffle, a bottle in his pocket allegedly broke, and he claimed Puryear thought he was about to shoot.
Harry Purdus, a yours man, was sent enced to four months in the workhouse by Criminal Judge Bremont Adford Friday, who found him guilty of striking Arthur Rhoads with a revolver. The case’s testimony did not settle the motive but it is believed the dispute centered on a woman.
A unusual condition in the iron market from Birmingham reports furnaces in the district selling less iron as large producers pause. The Tennessee Coal Iron and Rail road company Sloss Sheffield Steel and Iron Alabama Consolidated Coal and Iron are off the market for now. Daily orders are refused as smaller units struggle to share business, signaling a shift in supply.
Sophomores at Indiana Medical College branch of Purdue university won a Friday morning class scrap against freshmen. A flag incident revealed the freshmen’s poor progress, leading to a chaotic brawl with bruises and broken decorum. The victorious sophomores paraded the captured freshmen through the streets, threatening further punishment and a ducking at the monument basin.
Sergeant H W Sandman was stabbed in the right hand while breaking up a brawl on Columbia avenue near Marsachyretis and Newdersey streets. Three men, Jack Hammon 38 a bartender, Italian men from Michigan and Salrave were involved. all were arrested on assault and battery charges. Hammond claimed they were only scuffling for a pipe.

WOOSTER Ohio October 13 Judge Easton granted a divorce to Capt Elmore Taggart after a six week scandal that involved generals and relatives of President Roosevelt. The decision followed a month of deliberation and a long trial reviewing every incident. Mrs Taggart collapsed from nervous prostration and could not attend court. she expressed longing to keep the children as she left. Capt Taggart came from Columbus with friends to hear the verdict, asserting the charges were proven.
Pittsburgh Monday night saw Edward G Cunliffe, a trusted Adams Express money clerk, vanish with $10 600. The Faker ton detective agency will issue nationwide circulars offering a reward for Cunliffe s capture and the recovery of the missing funds.
James Moriarity, Elevinth ward councilman, runs as independent to challenge Democratic candidate John Donavan. He claims support from the loyal Democratic faction in Dis ward and has 180 signatures on his petition. Moriarity, known as a fighter for his ward, previously opposed Kenneh and Holtzman and refuses to bow to party machine.
Cost Kuhn of Terre Haute was fined 19 dollars for contempt after failing to obey a summons to testify before the railroad commission in the Decatur hay Tate case. He claimed no intent to contempt and said he meant no disrespect. The episode marks the commission's first appearance in court.

Marie Pruitt sick with cramps believed to be caused by gum opium given by Ryan, who worked as a dishwasher at Myre Prine’s restaurant. Detective Lincaster and Lowe arrested him after evidence and statements by Anna Pruitt. He admitted using opium for five years and claimed he did not think the drug would harm her. The girl is not in immediate danger and remains confined to bed.
A three year old boy named Elmer Cobran was pushed into boiling water by a large dog in Evansville Indiana and died from his injuries. Four others escaped. In Lorain Ohio four prisoners escaped from a prison by cutting through a ten inch brick wall early Friday.
The press in Washington reports Secretary Taft and Admiral Dewey replying to a foreign review alleging the U S Navy officers are overmatched. Dewey approves reform urging younger commanders and notes Swiss dangers in war while Taft defends the American army’s personnel, courage and discipline amid possible emergencies.
Wharton worth only 25 dollars. The petition in voluntary bankruptcy of Benjamin F. Wharton, a wagonmaker of South Bend, Ind., was filed in the United States district court on Friday. Liabilities 25036 assets 25.
