Downtown streets filled with about 75,000 people on Tuesday night crowding Monument Place as trains ran four to five extra coaches. Union station reported unusual morning traffic and 10,000 processed by gatemen by 1 p.m. with 30,000 to 40,000 more expected Thursday.
Thousands entered the Magic Circle in Indianapolis Tuesday night. Exhibits lined south booths and north show venues with a wide range from industrial displays to live acts. A Camel and elephant ride drew crowds while Belle Chiquita the smallest woman drew attention and a moving picture crowd watched brief Galveston and Boer War footage. The electric monument to be a shimmering water base with flying electric dimes was praised by travelers as the finest sight, surpassing Chicago’s fair. A horse act and Bostock animals join the free performances, with a new circus ring replacing the small merry-go-round.
The midway attraction opens on New Jersey Street with the Streets of Cairo drawing crowds alongside a high diver Speedy from Columbus Ohio who claims 18 years in the business and no accidents. A bear demonstration and lion trainer draw guests. a German village offers refreshments while a vaudeville stage runs. No liquor licenses allow beer sales at the German village.
The crowd at the courthouse grounds enjoyed a varied program headlined by a troupe of Hons and leopards led by Mme Morelli who speaks French to the animals. The seven Hons were obedient though not spectacular while other acts included pony Nick and Baby Ida with her dogs.
The Board of Works approved garbage collection bills totaling 2 725 for Indianapolis desiccating and 7 498 75 for Indianapolis sanitary. A petition seeks opening Michigan Street diagonally from Highland to ease sharp curves and car tracks, risking condemnation of several lots. The council committee probes Consumers' Gas Trust books, and Bingham's Paper Factory in New York sustained 925 000 damage from a burst pipe.
Flora and Ruth Tilford aged 7 and 11 woke to smoke and flames in a garret closet fire at 1 a m. They alerted their father who rescued the children and carried Betty Franklin 65 to safety, while rescuers escaped via the alley. Franklin later suffered possible internal injuries. the cause remains unknown. All residents are Black.
Mrs. Parsley reports her husband Rolia of the American Brewing Company is missing after starting work Saturday with 500 dollars in hand. He is six feet tall, 33, wore a light suit and hat, and planned to meet his wife and child at the Park theater that night. He has not left clothing or word, and his sudden disappearance follows a week of court activity on his mother's estate.
Chicago reports that beyond a conspiracy charge the grand jury will consider indicting Dr Unger for the murder of Miss Defenbach in connection with suspected insurance frauds. Two additional women connected to the case include a former Unger employee and a young woman from an insurance firm office.
The city was described as wide open with open saloon doors and backroom gambling. Patrons filled The Exchange, Pabst, Arcade entrances, Bates Inn, and Hogan’s Alley among others as two patrolmen observed in empty midnight streets. Drunken crowds, both sexes, including a 14-year-old boy, roamed Capito ave with music silenced after 11 p.m.
A Roxbury shanty fire on Wednesday morning killed three occupants, Edward Tousealain aged 45 and his two sons Edward 7 and James 14. Fire destroyed the home in Boston, Massachusetts. Investigators probe cause as neighbors recall the family.

Wednesday night program features monument and magic circle shows on the court house yard and New Jersey street high wire walking on West Market street. A grand allegorical parade tracing Indiana's growth forms at West and Washington streets and travels a circular route ending near Capitol. Indianapolis military band performs in the Magic circle with a program including March City Convention and selections such as Serenade and Runaway Girl, plus intermezzo and Stars and Stripes.

Chairman Hyde of the Board of Public Safety announced that police have positive instructions to stop all gambling they find. When asked if they are instructed to find it, he replied yes. He noted the police have plenty to do this week. Mahoney had said earlier that police have no instructions and that citizens must prosecute gambling.
Judge Leathers received a letter from J Frederick Kortpeter of Southport requesting three witnesses in a mortgage foreclosure case. Kortpeter is described as insane though no formal proceeding has occurred. he has long written to Indianapolis papers and the Sun with illegible scrawls and threats to judges. He is to be searched when he comes into court on October 15.
