Augustine Ruedy a 22 year old German printer wandered to the City hospital at 3 am after a demented night of study. He slashed his throat and wrist with a pen knife, then jumped into the canal, swam ashore, and sought admission. He says the wound in the throat was self inflicted while in the Turner building. His parents live in Akron Ohio. He will recover.
Police report says Officer Carter Temple a colored man was hit by a northbound electric car near the Alabama street crossing Tuesday noon. He suffered severe head bruises, a broken right rib, stomach impact and possible internal injuries. Temple was taken to his home at 130 Minerva street and then treated at Hancock's drug store. Dr Earp and the car crew J Hubbard conductor A Green were involved. His prognosis remains undetermined pending assessment of internal injuries.
New York Oct 10 In Mondays yacht race the Vigilant lost time from a broken bowsprit but a replacement was secured and will be in place for Wednesday. Lord Dunraven concedes the Vigilant is beaten in favorable conditions and says the Valkyrie is the faster boat in light winds, while American boats excel in American conditions. He doubts returning the cup to England but sees a chance if conditions favor the Valkyrie.
Rocnester New York October 10 Jacob Nerstner a fiery socialist and the reel husband of the anarchist Amma Goldman was sent to Auburn prison Ironclay for three years on grand larceny charges. He married Maima Goldman four years ago and the couple lived here. Goldman refused to name her husband at her New York trial, reportedly because he was wanted for issuing a fraudulent bail bond to free his brother in the penitentiary.
A Tuesday fire at Nantasket, Massachusetts consumed six cottages, Ransom's hotel, and the Weymouth house while authorities limited gatherings. In other news, Bangor Mississippi’s ice company collapsed and a Chicago office death occurred. Breckinridge opposition grows as four party papers oppose him.
