Two masked bandits rode into Sherburne Minnesota on bicycles and shot cashier J A Thorburn at his desk killing him and a traveling man named Oestern. They escaped with about 1000 dollars as a lynching mood rises and a posse pursues.
Forecast for Indianapolis and vicinity for six hours ending p m on October 4. Thursday night will be warmer and fair, with Friday continuing dry conditions.
Oboutice and a girl find a yellow pumpkin believed to be a watermelon. Johnnie Tomms is charged with destroying property and tells the court he will stop. George Du Maurier the artist and author of Trilby died at 2 30 am Thursday after a period of heart and lung trouble. Born in Paris March 6 1784 he moved to England at 17 and built a reputation as a painter and satirist with Punch and other outlets. He illustrated many works and his most famous novel Trilby brought him wealth and wide renown across continents.
Jasper Hixon joined Twenty first Indiana volunteers and died in battle. His son Charles filed for a pension as the only living son. In 1881 a United States pension claim was allowed in 1887 for ten dollars monthly from 1866 to 1875. Frank Burk sued to recover 318 dollars alleging Leon Hixon was alive, making the pension fraudulent.
