In North Tonawanda New York on October 7 a double murder occurred at B W Scribner’s lumber docks when boatmen revolting against freight cuts confronted loading boats. Captain Phillips and his son were shot and killed during a tense midnight clash as arrests rise to fourteen with more sought.
During the cornerstone ceremony in Loratyg Ohio a platform for 2000 collapsed trapping and injuring many. Martin Galm a 38 year old German born butcher of 103 Broadway died at 2 15 pm Saturday from a rare catarrh of the hand that led to bone rot and blood poisoning. Amputation above the elbow failed to save him and he died in agony after his condition rapidly deteriorated. He left a widow and six children and was active in the local butchers society and Catholic order. The funeral is set for Tuesday morning at 8 00 o clock with Catholic cemetery interment.
