A mob at a Mobile Alabama train station seized Sheriff Powers on October 21 and hanged two black prisoners being returned to face assault charges. Deputies were overpowered as the train halted, allowing the lynching to occur without militia presence.
Patrolman John W Cousins of the Alice department faces cowardice and neglect of duty charges from the Board of Public Safety after witnesses say he fled the scene when Jesse Coe and George Williams opened fire killing Patrolmen Charles Russell and Edward Petticord on Indianapolis Avenue. He claims he fired after Williams and helped Petticord, but the board set the trial for Wednesday.
In Floyd county Democratic nominating affairs William T. Zenor’s name appears as the regular nominee under the party emblem while William E. Cox is listed as a special candidate. The state committee recognizes Cox as the regular nominee, and county chairman Scott’s refusal to honor that ruling sparked a rift. Ballot printing is overseen by a board including the county clerk, with party representation from each side. tensions threaten to widen factional splits and possibly go to court.
Louisville dispatch reports a warehouse fire at Mayfield Woollen Mill causing about 3190 in goods loss. Fire chiefs from across the country tracked the blaze while en route to the national association meeting in Dallas. J D P Bimyson, secretary, says the laws will cover 90 percent of the value.

John L Griffiths, Miller, Hemenway, Hingham, and Dougherty are listed for various towns, with a series of county meetings planned by Marion county Democrats and Republican committees following an Overstreet meeting.
The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners returned to headquarters in the State Site building after a Niagara Falls convention. It drew 62 delegates, the largest attendance in the bloc’s history. Next convention location is Baltimore City Utah. Proposals include an Indianapolis headquarters site with an eight story building at 140000 and alternate HQ only plan. An appropriation of 30.0% was recommended, but local control remains strong. Gifts included a 16 piece silver service for President Huber and gold fountain pens for Joseph Carson and James ODonnell, all from Indianapolis. Football fans saw 15 routes run by the Indianapolis and Northwestern Traction Co for the Indiana Wabash game in Crawfordsville with two shuttles at 9 am and 10 49 am.
Police and detectives, including Capt. Martin Hyland and Lieut. Henry Sandman, followed reports of a man resembling Jesse Coe entering a barn near Amy Indiana. After a wide search through barns, outbuildings, cornfields, and woods, no trace was found. Chief Metzger’s team also searched Brownsburg vicinity, returning with no arrest or clues.

The Woman's Realty company offers a few shares for sale before June 1 to fund building for homes bought on small payments. Managed by women, it declared a July 1 198 dividend of 6 percent plus 1 43 percent credit to stockholders, with earnings supporting potential further dividends.
Indianapolis officials opened bids for an official Marion county car funded with 2000 dollars. Only one bidder, Sullivan for Lambert No 5 and No 8 models, submitted offers. Boyd for Federal Motor Car’s Stevens machine offered 2500 but lacked a bond and was rejected. If Lambert meets specs, the county will buy. otherwise a new call for bids is likely.
The Park Board seeks a special appropriation to hire three appraisers to value land and improvements owned by Riverside Amusement Company and adjacent property for possible condemnation and city purchase believed worth over 200000. Clyde Power said the improvements alone are at least 125000, not counting leases and Indianapolis Canoe Club property. The board aims to add Riverside land to Riverside Park, pushing the council to act despite prior funding disputes.
Vanderbilt Cup race details out of New York as Louis Wagner, a French driver, wins at an average 61.40 mph after ten laps around a 297 mile course. Kert A Gruner of Parsale and Joseph Stendler of New York die amid the crashes. Lancia finishes second, and several cars retire or crash including Wellschott and Colomebo.
