Mrs. Ivory, widow of John C. Ivory, disowns her daughter Louise Marie Ivory after she weds Dr Melvin Reeve Moore, an atheist favored by Ingersoll. The mother condemns the union citing religious conflict and vows not to recognize the marriage or permit grandchildren near the doctor.
A Great Northern express was held up Monday night near St. Cloud. Robbers split the train and forced the engineer to run the mail car down the track, leaving the rest of the train in the woods. By error they damaged the express car, allowing it to proceed with the engine and preventing the robbery.
At Monday council, Controller Johnson urged a $32 369 77 special appropriation for officer payments without touching 1896 funds. The issue was referred to the finance committees. A resolution directs the city attorney to probe gas company charges of $2 for a single store despite an ordinance setting $1 25.

Fielding Beeler, 73, a longtime Marion county resident and agricultural figure, died at his Maywood home Tuesday morning after a year of frail health. His wife died weeks earlier. Surviving are four children, two sisters Mrs. Calvin Fletcher and Mrs. Starriet C. Tall, and he was uncle to Mrs. Harry H. New. His son Fielding Beeler Jr. works in the Marion county judiciary and formerly served in the legislature.
State Superintendent Geeting reports all schools closed for diphtheria have reopened. The epidemic swept the state reducing attendance at schools that remained open and forcing over 100 schoolhouses to close in the past month.
