Evansville Ind November 18 police officer Wilbur S Sherwell was arrested and formally charged with the murder of Lena Renner whose body was found in a ditch on Slaughter avenue last week. Coroners say the case is circumstantial and require a strong alibi.
Jack Riley of 604 Russell Ave was shot Sunday night likely as he stood at the rear door of a saloon at 307 W McCartyst. A voice called him out before 11. No chase followed. Dr Jobes reports Riley to recover. bystanders say Riley, linked to the Boo gang, will not speak. Garbey Haley was arrested for drunkenness and loitering. Police have little new information Monday morning.
A Methodist meeting Monday morning debated Rev. E. L. Gilliam black minister's paper The fruits of infidelity. Some ministers attacked infidelity while others urged gentler Christian persuasion as the means to win back skeptics.
Judge Alford ordered a special venue of thirty names for the trial of James Johnson for the alleged murder of Joel Combs. The drawing will begin on Monday.

William Rose and J T Mahan, aged 86 and 85, were charged with stealing about a bushel of coal from the L E W railroad yard after they took coal to keep their families warm. They were arrested Sunday afternoon and released after Judge Stubbs dismissed the cases, with township fuel aid promised.
