Midway Tennessee Claims Smallest Incorporated City Title
Nashville reports Midway in Houston County Tennessee is the nation’s smallest incorporated city after census returns. The town rose to exist to dodge the four mile liquor law around schools, built a saloon, and grew to about 75 residents with no taxes. Citizens later opposed the council fights and a legislative act extended the four mile rule to small towns, ending whisky sales there. The population now is about 50.
