Catholic Centennial catalyzes debate on American church progress

The centennial of the Catholic hierarchy in America is hailed as a major religious event in Baltimore with praise for Rome’s growth in the United States. The piece notes increases in Catholics, archbishops, bishops, priests, and churches, while cautioning against attributing all national achievement to Catholics alone and citing historical figures like Taos Paine and Thomas Paine in broader progress. It also humorously mentions a coal gas accident in Connecticut and critiques various current affairs from Indiana education to Chicago policing, with satirical asides on political figures.
