At about 5 a.m. Saturday a fire damaged Holy Cross church and school in Oriental and Christs, causing about 5500 in losses. Fire started likely in the basement from an overheated furnace and smoldered before discovery. School furniture including two pianos and other instruments suffered 1500 in damage. church loss came from smoke and heat. Vestments and frescoes were badly smoked and will need replating. building damage estimated at 2000 insured, but school and church furniture were uninsured.
