Millions From Inheritance Tax in Britain

The Sun reports Britain earns 90 to 100 million dollars yearly from death duties on estates over 500 dollars. The tax is highly graduated, burdening the rich most while the poor feel little. Bequests within a year of death are fully taxed. Estate taxes rise to 10 percent plus a 1 percent supertax above 5 million. Additional succession duties apply, with rates up to 10 percent for distant relatives. If a 5 million estate leaves to charity, 1/2 million goes to estate duty and 1/2 million to succession duty.
