The Board of works signed payrolls Friday for the week ending Thursday night showing the park cleanup crew at 2,561.01 and the street repair gang at 2,210.85. Since Sept 15 the park cleanup has cost the city 8,663.25, with the work expected to finish election day.
John W. Spencer, democratic chairman of district 1, rejected the 16 to 1 silver plan in a Sun dispatch from Evansville and Tavansville. He calls the spread of the article fabrications from hostile sources while others in the party back bimetallism as a campaign goal.
In Chicago on a warm Thursday evening Jennie Harenski eighteen was garroted by a burly attacker in Garfield Park. Her hair was clipped and she suffered a badly bruised throat from the grip of the clipper as onlookers watched the assault.

Seventeen Cubans from Ceuta prison, Africa, arrive in New York from Gibraltar aboard the Kaiser Wilhelm II. Sentences ranged 30 years to life for Cuban insurrection involvement. Most will be sent to Cuba. one American citizen, Fernandez Serria, stays with his mother. Over 400 more Cuban prisoners to be released at US expense.
Judge Dempsey in Cincinnati’s superior court ruled that any person who ever subscribed to a building and loan association and later withdrew is liable if the association incurs trouble or insolvency. The case involved an application for a receiver for the Fairmount building and loan.
In New York on Friday November 4, Roosevelt funds surged in the gubernatorial race, vanishing odds for Van Wyck, and a $50 000 Republican pool in Wall Street. Croker criticized Roosevelt as erratic and a tax dodger while Choate assailed Croker in a headline mass meeting, calling out Croker's memory lapses.
John Smith a 95 year old colored man died at City hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage after five days illness. He was employed by Dr. Dowell on W Tenth Street and was married. The coroner was notified.

In Los Angeles on November 4 a confession from Mrs. Myers ties John Hancock to the April murder of two men in southern Nevada. She says Hancock shot them as they slept, buried the bodies, and fled with their belongings while she feared for her life. Hancock is jailed in San Francisco.
President McKinley responded to a letter from the state blind institute children in Indianapolis who regret not meeting him. Teacher Miss Jessie Hamilton added a note. the president said he wished he had time to visit the school. The children are overjoyed by his sympathy and reply. In court, David Watts the streetcar motorman was granted a divorce after witnessing another man flee his home.
Charles Nelson, a Toledo man described as of bad character, was executed in the electric chair at Columbus Penitentiary after a murder and robbery tied to his pursuit of a woman of ill repute. Deputy Dawson escorted him to the annex. Chaplain Winger prayed. Dr Saynor timed the death at 12 50. Nelson killed James Zimmerman with a hammer during a store dispute over a fine owed by Nelson’s mistress.
The Montserrat came into Cadiz with 1 78 troops from Cuba aboard. Ninety seven died on the voyage and eight hundred are sick with many in dying condition. Officers say Gibara authorities forced sick and dying soldiers to embark.

In Chicago on November 4 detectives pursue a case surrounding Jennie Hickey whose body was found in a lake. A witness testifies he saw the girl with a man at 8 15 p.m near Sixty fifth street and Grove road, and the man attempted to lure her into a saloon. The detective plans to compare this man with Niemeyer, previously questioned, to determine if he is the same person seen with Hickey before her disappearance.
In Grand Rapids on Thursday a manifesto signed by 20 leading Michigan Republicans denounces Gov. Pingree as a demagogue and character assassin. The document calls for his defeat next Tuesday as a step toward republican purification in Michigan.

He faces embezzlement charges after admitting taking about 8000 dollars over five years, identified by his brother leading to the arrest.
