In Rossland Tennessee Deputy marshal Potter pursued Grant James after he escaped, with Wallace and Berry aiding. Grant’s brother Dick Jones fired on the officers. Wallace and Berry r fired back, killing Dick and wounding Grant, who likely dies from his injuries. The incident follows an earlier indictment for shooting Deputy Marshal Marper.
A strong earthquake at 4 35 Friday morning rocked Rome causing cracks and panicked streets. Four palaces and the Bank of Italy became unsafe while the Finance Ministry building Palazzo Coescalchi and five others suffered light damage. The Santa Maria Muaggiore convent was badly damaged and monks injured. The Vatican felt the shock and the pope was awakened and calm.
