A violent Monday night storm drenched the city as lightning struck near Helwig's chair factory and carriages were flooded. Fire crews fought fires, ambulances were false alarms, and residents along Pogue's run faced flooded basements, with patrols rescuing the elderly and others from rising waters.

Depositions in the Norris divorce case clarify prior relations between the 18 year old Ella May Crawford and William Norris as he seeks wealth-related grounds.

Hat tie Lash a colored woman, riding in a buggy with a white man, was struck by a freight train on the Big Four tracks at First Street. The buggy was carried and the carriage wrecked, Lash crushed beneath the wheels and died. The white man fled the scene. his name is unknown. The body was taken to Powers Murphy’s undertaking rooms. The accident occurred about 1:30 p.m.
Deputy Conway arrested 22 people in northern Indiana on revenue law violations. The group included G. W. Heing, John Kuesport, Paul Haas, Michael Regworski, B. M. Hodson, R. P. Milton, R. H. Kuss, and George Hebel at South End, with additions from Goshen, Elkhart, Mishawaka, Valparaiso, Michigan City, North Liberty, Marion, Kokomo, and Laporte. Conway plans to leave the service after purchasing Pattison's livery.

Martin Moran, an Illinois Street saloon keeper, stood trial in criminal court charged with assault and battery with intent to kill John Cain. The incident occurred on January 4 after Cain, a traveling salesman for George Woodford Co., entered Moran’s saloon to settle a prior dispute. Cain was shot in the back and survived after two months in St. Vincent’s hospital. Moran’s bartender, John Lyons, is in custody for reportedly striking Cain with a beer mallet.
Perry Weaver, son of North Indianapolis contractor Weaver, drowned Tuesday morning while playing along Fall Creek. He stepped on a wet plank, fell into the swollen stream, and sank as undertaker Girton led a drag effort from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The body likely lodged in driftwood.
