Reports from Manila state natives, stirred by the wet season, intensify guerrilla activity while Gen. Luna and Gen. Mascardo reinforce trenches around San Fernando. Capt. Clay urges more troops. refugees cry for government food as crops fail and rice is distributed from captured stores.
Reports from Cuba and the Philippines dampen war officials. Discontent with Gen. Brooke and calls to end the Schurman peace effort surface. Aggressive campaigns in the rainy season threaten more costly fighting than Santiago.
Capt Charles D Clay of the Seventeenth Regulars reports heavy fighting remains in the Philippines. He warns only 15 000 troops are fit for action after Manila garrison and sick list, fearing prolonged war may bring massacres similar to Indian warfare. He heads Minnesota regiment and will undergo X ray in New York for a bullet from March 25.
May 29 report from Manila says Capt Tilly of the signal corps was captured on Negros after landing at Essecantee with the Recorder crew. A flag of truce was fired upon as the landing party advanced, the Recorder commander escaped to the launch, and he later rescued the second mate. Capt Tilly's fate remained unknown amid praise for his courage.
Memorial Day will be observed in Manila on Tuesday for the first time. There are 246 graves in Paco Cemetery and 287 at Battery Knoll. the dead include four men and eight comrades.

Lena Bouts, 14, and her 10 year old brother Nicholas confessed to murdering their father Trank Boots, a Pennington county railroad conductor. The girl fired from a rear window while the boy steadied the rifle as the family ate lunch after the killing. The motive cited cruelty by the father.
A Monday meeting of state officials decided not to publicize the decision on placing an Epworth League tent at the Indiana statehouse lawn during the summer convention in Indianapolis. They cited thin soil and good grass, and will ask Epworth representatives to meet to discuss a quiet resolution. The attorney general will assess feasibility of pressing stands in corridors and the phrase so far as practicable in the legislature’s resolution.
Mabel Duffy a colored servant at 21 N Noble st was bound over to the grand jury after Judge Cox found no clear innocence or guilt in a forgery case involving receipts. J C Van Horn an upholsterer disputed her guilt while she claimed the forged receipts came from someone in Van Horn's store. John H Ehrisman Allisonville farmer was fined for drunkenness and driving on the wrong side of the street after he struck Edna Wilson on her wheel. Charles Gleason a Hay and Willetts collector had embezzlement case continued to Tuesday for alleged pocketing of collections. Dudley Ends 1189 Spruce st admitted firing a pistol for fun and received a $5 fine. Pat Griffin was fined $5 for carrying a razor and loitering on her streets.

Dorman N. Davidson an insurance man at 1620 Broadway fired twice at his head Sunday afternoon with a revolver given after a barn burglary incident. He claims the weapon discharged unintentionally while he did not understand its mechanism. His daughter Helen fainted from fear but both he and family deny suicide. He and Dr. Newton reported two bullets entered but caused no serious injury. Davidson's condition improved by Monday.

Louifi Agha, the sultan's favorite and a beauty who influenced Abdul Hamid, has died in Constantinople. She was known for her beauty and for guiding major palace decisions. Lentfi Agha owned a vast diamond collection valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars. Her death reportedly unsettled palace affairs.
Edward Tuttle died of tuberculosis after a six month illness. Born in Indianapolis in 1870, he trained in candy making and house painting and worked year round. He was a Tabernacle church member. One child survives him. Funeral held Monday afternoon from his father Orrien Tuttle’s residence at 1522 N Senate Ave.

A cyclone swept Hamilton county causing numerous injuries as it moved across the state. Among the injured are William Steele and family, A E Sucks daughters severely hurt, and Harry Meyers carried by the wind. the storm carried debris over a mile, dropped into Blue River with many expected to recover. The cyclone crossed diagonally through the state.
Caddo Oklahoma reported four cyclone touchdowns Sunday afternoon followed by a severe hailstorm. Many dwellings were unroofed and blown from their foundations. There was no loss of life.
Rev. S E K Hayt of Mayflower Congregational Church resigns effective November 1 after a brief tenure begun last September. He cites failure to fund a new Delaware and Sixteenth Street church site and says the congregation cannot grow in the current chapel. Hayt plans to seek another position after retirement and notes trustees cannot raise the needed funds.
