Chicago May trading saw a sharp rise as cornered shorts pushed wheat to new highs. May options touched 31 and three quarters cents, July at 1.18 and a half, with buying 5000 to 10000 bushel lots and strong demand despite limited offers. Corn advanced 4 and oats up 1 1/4, with provisions 0.6 higher. closing quotes show July wheat 1.18 3/4, corn 55 1/4, pork price at 10.55 for July.
Mrs. Elizabeth Marmon widow of Daniel W Marmon was named executrix and her son Walter C Marmon executor by Judge Ross. Bond set at 1 041 000 to cover 500 000 personal property with valuable real estate in Indianapolis. Prohibited bondsmen include C C Perry A Newby Charles E Test and the widow and children of the deceased. In New York Mrs Margaret Challenger defense follows Tracy firm failure.
Marvin M. Lain and Alice Dunn, ages 10 and 12, won ponies from the Indianapolis Sun for letters about the dog and pony show. Dunn received her pony at the matinee. Lain at the evening performance. Judges praised the winners and the quality of many letters from Indianapolis and suburbs.
President Taft told reporters in Washington that Congress will adjourn before July 1. He outlined plans for July Fourth in Norwich Connecticut and a series of visits in Vermont New York and Massachusetts. The trip includes Pittsburg Gettysburg and a return to the White House by Tuesday morning.
Budapest May 24 A Turkish detachment crossed the Turco Bulgarian frontier and attacked the Bulgarian post at Heskwel. After a sharp clash in which Bulgarian support arrived the Turks were repulsed and retreated with severe losses.
A dispatch says the Dowager Czarina fled Venice amid anarchist plot rumors. Police surrounded rail approaches as she ran to a reserved carriage and boarded the train, which started immediately.
Pat Seedy, described as the best known sporting man, is seriously ill at his home in New York City from fatty degeneration of the heart. He is bedridden for most of the day and little hope is held for recovery.
In Cedar Rapids Iowa a burglar shot and seriously wounded Mayor Olin Carmody after robbing the Rev J J Toomey at his home. The mayor grappled with the assailant during the struggle and was shot in the abdomen before the intruder fled as police investigated the sequence of burglaries.
Judge Ross appointed Mary D. Carson as executrix of Oliver H. Carson estate. He died May 17, leaving $15,000 in personal property and real estate valued at unknown. bond set at $30,000. Carson was a prominent Indianapolis attorney.
Charles Ement Edward D Smith and John J Brown all of Brightwood charged with gambling pleaded guilty before Judge Pritchard in criminal court Monday morning and each was fined 13.25 dollars total with costs.
Prosecutor Hooton and Judge Pritchard set three murder trials for June. John Barson will be tried June 1, Burt Law on June 7, and Elmer S Ginn on June 10.
Marie Shaw, survive injuries from the June 27 1908 Terre Haute to Indianapolis and Eastern line crash that killed Andrew Sloan and Earl Gardner, will testify in Judge Bartholomew's court about the wreck. Sloan sues the traction company for 10000 alleging unlawful speed lack of warning and careless operation. The eight aboard included two killed and others injured. Shaw now relies on crutches and is two inches shorter due to injuries.
More than 500 men search for four bandits who robbed the Union Pacific overland train Saturday night. A $20,000 reward is offered for their capture, but no crew has surfaced likely to lead to an arrest.

Ira Perry, a Black man, narrowly survives two gunshots from Ed Williams, a Brown's saloon bartender, after a dice dispute on Nineteenth Street. A bullet hit a rib and glanced off while another entered his right ear. Williams was arrested by bicycle police Stewart and Reidy.
An affadavit filed in criminal court by Frank F. McCrea charges Charles C. Carr manager of the Indianapolis baseball club with engaging in professional baseball work not for charity or necessity. Witnesses include George W. Brown and Floyd Chaffee. A committee of business men backs the action and a capias was issued for Mr Carr.
Three stockholders file in Chicago Superior Court seeking a receiver for H. W. Dudley Coffee Company at 275 Kinzie Street. They allege officer misconduct and challenge methods used by Boston financier W. S. Quinby to gain control, described in the bid as a bid to saver of high finance.
