Stranger Kills Himself In Hotel Mystery At Normandie
Charles E. Autram of Alliance Ohio died after firing a 32 caliber pistol at his forehead in a second floor room at Hotel Normandie. He registered, wrote a long letter, and appeared cheerful before his death. Poison failed, leaving investigators to conclude he died by his own hand after an attempted poisoning. Autram, about 27, clean shaved, 5 foot 2, carried railroad letters and teaching credentials. He was removed to Whitsett’s for burial. coroner and hotel staff investigated the fatal incident.
