City engineers weigh permanent fix costing 15000 to 30000 dollars after repainting was halted. Charles Hubbard, colored, will go to the state prison for life for the killing of Gus Monroe, also colored. Shelbyville woman Sarah H. Adams faced Judge Baker after being indicted by a federal grand jury for using the mails to defraud. The case details her letters to Kansas men including a noted “My ever dear, Mr Lewis dear” line. Adams pleaded not guilty and was held for trial as over 40 indictments were announced. The courtroom was crowded. other pleas of guilty were entered but no sentences pronounced.

One hundred ten delegates from the State haymakers association meet at Druid's hall in Maryland street for their tenth annual gathering. The society began in 1882 with six members and has grown to over 8,000, with 1,800 new members joined and 1,478 suspended for nonpayment of dues. They have paid $6,303 in relief to needy members and hold $7,685.68 in the treasury. The group is linked to the Improved Order of Red Men and requires a chieftain's degree for membership. Election of officers is set for Wednesday.

Richard M Johnston 56 formerly of Columbus Indiana was chief of the assorting and checking department in the sixth auditor office of the treasury department. He was found dead in his bed Wednesday morning at his home near Brightwood Washington a coroner is investigating.
A clash between Negroes and showmen from the Gentry show on Capitol avenue and Sixteenth street sparked a riot Tuesday night. Capt Hyland dispatched two sergeants five patrolmen and district officers. Six arrests were made as a hot fight erupted around 9 30 pm. Similar trouble had occurred at the same spot in prior years caused by Negro loiterers.

The first public branch telephone exchange in Indianapolis, built by Central Union Telephone Company, near Twenty Fourth and Pearson Place, will connect all north side calls to the branch. Calls to addresses north of Twenty Second Street will be connected directly by the branch, while south of Twenty Second Street go to the central exchange for numbers. Many North Side numbers will be changed under this new arrangement.
