Skipping Flames in Plymouth Massachusetts reports a massive wildfire burning since Monday from Wareham into Plymouth. The 11 mile long by five mile wide line destroyed thousands of acres, cranberry bogs and bog houses, with dozens of summer cottages saved and rain Tuesday mitigating further spread. total loss remains undetermined but expected to run into thousands of dollars.

Vincennes Indiana May 20 James Nimley a policeman was found guilty by a jury of assaulting George Schaller on a street last fall to rob and possibly murder him. Schaller survived his injuries. Nimley was sentenced to seven years in the penitentiary.
The Cuban war keeps sugar imports shrinking with prices climbing. Last year Cuba shipped over 1,060,000 tons, but this year only about 140,900 tons have arrived. Through May 13 this year, 10,995 tons reached port versus 29,630 tons by the same date last year. Ches O'Connor of O'Connor & Son's wholesale grocers warns prices will keep rising and supplies will stay tight.
