Kansas City May 16 Murder in the first degree with life imprisonment was the verdict against Dr. B C Hyde after a 60 hour jury deliberation. Hyde showed little emotion as his wife cried. judge Latshaw ordered no bail and scheduled sentencing next Thursday or Friday.
In Bloomington Indiana on May 16 the Y M C A canvass collected 3100 in pledges, surpassing the 3000 goal by 100. Former vice president Fairbanks spoke at the campaign windup Saturday night.
A cow on W. E. Matlock’s farm in Kokomo Indiana rabidly charged a veterinary surgeon. He leaped through a barber wire fence to escape, injuring himself as the cow was killed. Several neighboring cows are behaving strangely, alarming farmers.
In Crawfordsville Indiana on May 16 the convention to nominate a joint senator from Montgomery and Parke counties will be held in Waveland on Tuesday. Current senator George E. Hanna and Clay Owen editor of the Rosedale Tribune are the only candidates.
John Horace, a tailor, was rescued from a small brick shop at 924 N. Alabama by a passerby who found the blaze early Monday. Horace slept in a rear room when the door was broken open and he was carried out. The fire caused little damage and spontaneous combustion is suspected.
Theodore Roosevelt, now representative of the United States, visited King George V at Marlborough House on Monday, arriving from Berlin for the funeral of Edward VII. The King welcomed him warmly as officials and American visitors gathered at Victoria Station.
Mayor Shank's Indianapolis arrival following a Birmingham police chief meeting sparked sharp rebukes from Rev. Frederick E. Taylor at First Baptist Church over Sunday baseball and Sunday shows. Taylor criticized business leaders who back saloon interests, while Shank defended Sunday baseball and moving pictures as rights for all, noting Southern cities' lax enforcement of prohibition and praising Indianapolis as cleaner and more moral.

Sowders led medical efforts with IU medical students aiding the response. The superintendent says cases are not severe and under control.
Summit New Jersey May 16 The Board of Health seeks help from New York experts to exterminate the two million rats infesting city garbage dumps that menace nearby homes.
Governor Marshall travels to Worthington Indiana on Monday to deliver the graduation exercises address for Worthington High School students.
Dr W F Swain will discuss Denver and the Rocky Mountains at the Edwin Bay M E church meeting of stewards and the brotherhood. The 8 pm session promises a focused talk on regional geography and related topics.
Indianapolis business leaders met at the Merchants' association to name Republican candidates. Nominated are Winfield Niller, John N. Carey, Harold Hibben Jr., and Will H. Brown. They aim to strengthen business interests and pass new laws, while supporting Senator Beveridge. A permanent committee was formed with William C. Bobbs as chairman.
The Bureau of Animal Industry announces a relocation from the stock yards to room 402 in the Federal Building within 60 days. Dr. H. H. George serves as inspector in charge as workmen prepare the new offices. Inspectors remain at stock yards and packing plants to prevent diseased animals from entering commerce and to inspect meats postmortem.
In Kansas City on May 16, Dr. R. C. Hyde was found guilty of murder in the first degree for killing Col. Thomas Swope, a millionaire philanthropist. The jury returned a verdict after deliberating since Friday evening, condemning Hyde to life in prison.

In Brownsville Pennsylvania on May 16 three people were killed and six seriously burned when boilers exploded at the Diamond Coal and Coke plant at Chewtown near here. Three gas meters blew during the blaze as men fought flames. In Brooklyn, twelve firemen were overcome battling a cellar fire at 2634 Fulton Street after three gas meters exploded, with Capt. John Hartman in serious condition.
May 16 The supreme court denied Charles W. Morse petition for permission to file a writ of habeas corpus. Willard Smith at 320 S Gray St was arrested at the stockyards by Mounted Policeman Keating. Smith is charged with loitering after selling a cow stolen from Andrew Bebora of 2378 Keystone St, claiming a man hired him to sell it.
