Who's the Liar The Question In Washington May 16

Long political skirmish centers on ex Senator W E Chandler of New Hampshire and his role as go-between in Roosevelt era railroad policy. Senators Foraker Hox and Spooner face off with Chandler as critics await his forthcoming public statement. Washington observers label chapters from Tillman Ledge Moody and others as a dramatic, partisan volley.

Chandler Top Roosevelt Imbroglio to Grow

Washington May 18 probable one more chapter to the Chandler-Top Roosevelt affair. Ex Senator Chandler has not replied to presidential aspersions on his veracity and prepares a statement likely as a letter to Senator Titman. The letter may be given to the press or posted in the senate doorway. Chandler is expected to reiterate claims that the president questioned Knox Foraker and Spooner and that they sought to defeat the vote bill by constitutional arguments. Senator Lodge denounced the statement as an unqualified falsehood. Chandler may reveal who started negotiations between the president and the Democratic aviators and mention a White House message to Henry G. Needham.
