Newport May 5 The trial of Scott Jackson continues as defense casts doubt on the states tale of Pearl Bryan murder. Witnesses including Trusty face scrutiny while prosecutors press a conspiracy claim.
The Citizens' Street Railroad and the city, led by Mayor Taggart and A L Mason, reached a joint plan Tuesday to repair Fall Creek bridges used by street cars. Mason will share half the cost, with city and railroad engineers to determine exact work and materials.
Firemen salvage corps work after a gasoline engine explosion at Adolph Drach's saloon in Newport. Debris and entombed victims fill the cellar as investigators identify dead, injured, and missing. The unknown morgue woman is Mia Singleton of Aosville Ohio.

Firefighters found the victims in the Cohen and Postarne k rooms. Firemen and hospital staff struggled to save others, but several more burned children died at St Catherine's Hospital.
In Cheenier county near RoNchevertio a quarrel between Culp and his wife over jealousy led to gunfire. Culp and his son exchanged shots. the son was fatally wounded and died within minutes, the father was shot in the lung, then wounded his wife who survived with a serious arm injury. Unclear who fired first.

The American Girl from San Francisco bound for Ballard with ballast went ashore near Point No Point Sunday morning. The Celtic Race reports the vessel as high on the beach with a heavy list to starboard. A Monday floated-at-high-tide report is unconfirmed. The ship sits in a sheltered spot and is not expected to suffer damage.
Seifert from Youngstown Ohio arrived in San Francisco to view a Sonoma county farm. He carried about four thousand dollars and a gold watch when last seen leaving a hotel with a real estate agent. His wife reports his failure to return, and police search continues with no trace found.
Zion German Evangelical Church members in WW Ohio Street near Tii Lots Street debated selling church property for a theater site. A $30,000 offer on nearby Scudder property prompted concerns. The Mississippi Supreme Court affirms the death sentence for Shep Palmer who killed a man and his wife with a wooden billet last winter and orders the execution by hanging on June 13. Palmer admitted the crimes and prepared to die as his lawyer argued an illegal court due to a two-judge term. The court rules the prior term was legal. Forecast for Indianapolis region predicts fair weather for the next 36 hours ending 8 p m on May 8.

Wheeling West Virginia May reports C M Miller town marshal of Huson captured two postoffice robbers near Littleton after an exchange of about a dozen shots. George Patterson was badly wounded and Thomas Hinerman fled but was later captured. They had robbed Jefferson Dye's store and post office at Jollytown Pennsylvania. Patterson's wound is not fatal. The men will be taken to Pittsburgh on a US warrant.
Rev. Henry G. Sauer pastor of St Pauls church and Lutheran synod leader died suddenly of apoplexy at 2 am Tuesday in Fort Wayne Indiana after a day of dizziness. He was a graduate of St Louis seminary and had attended the synod session Monday.
