Chicago May 4 Michael Walsh, a teamster, killed and mutilated his wife after she rejected his proposal. He used long scissors to carve the body into nearly a hundred wounds and severed organs scattered about the room. His nephew Thomas Walsh confessed to the crime.
A veteran engineer argues that people fear lightning more than it harms. He recalls engines riding through storms with only rain and steam on the cab windows, noting the train’s roar calms passengers and that metal and glass offer limited protection.
