Ida C. Parker of 1114 Atwood street was sprayed with carbolic acid by two women in her yard Sunday night after being warned three times by fortune tellers about a woman who would try to harm her. The assailants fled. Parker and her daughter Rosa fear the poison was aimed at Rosa.
During intermission a midlife woman claimed a mouse in the Park Theatre stirred fear among patrons. No mouse existed. a dropped program and rustling sound triggered her panic, others frightened by the scene, while the orchestra continued.
Secretary of State Hunt and Auditor Hart returned from Washington where they assisted in presenting the 645000 Indiana war claim. Attorney-general Taylor and Deputy auditor Bingham stayed to meet with the U S auditor. The remaining question is simply the amount the government will pay, with no contest to the claim overall. Hunt noted state officials were complimented on the claim’s preparation, praised as the best yet presented.

Charlotte widow Sallie Brown, about 45, left Winston-Salem for Southwick Massachusetts to wed a man she has never met. She could not pronounce his name Edward Co. She read his marriage ad and they had been corresponding since last November.

George Gwinn, 102, of Huntington Tennessee, is described as the oldest resident on his farm with a vast, scattered family. Born in 1800, he was bought as a child and married repeatedly, fathering 47 children with six wives, now with 140 grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. His son Lewis Thomas, 64, lives nearby. Gwinn, a lively old darkey, uses a cane yet can work, has quit liquor and tobacco, and plans to plant a crop next year.
Announced at the postoffice on Monday morning a new postoffice substation will be established on Meridian Street to take the place of the Union station substation, which is to be abandoned. The move follows wholesalers pushback against the Union station closure benefiting the wholesale district.

Miss Kate E. Kiefer a 20 year old teacher at school No. 3 Center township was instantly killed near the Big Four yards at the east end of tee houses after stepping from a Prospect street car to reach her school. The east bound No. 4 train struck her as she walked toward Sherman drive. Her body was moved to New Jersey street, then to the morgue. Her roommate Mira Hoover witnessed the events but could not speak, later informing her mother of the tragedy.
The Sun received a testimonial from National Furniture Co praising an ad in the March 24 issue that drew about 1,500 customers to the National Furniture Co stores on Washington Street. The firm notes each customer could take one palm and all palms sold before 5 PM, crediting The Sun with bringing 1,500 people into the store.

In Bethlehem on March 31 Roy Raymond, 14, fell into water while his hat blew into a race at Erwin's paint mill. His mother clung to him in a desperate rescue attempt but exhaustion and a strong current prevented saving him. The boy's body was later found near a feed-gate with fatal neck injury.
In St Joseph Missouri Christian C Nelson pleaded guilty to bigamy after being charged by Mrs Mary A Parker of Plattsburg He confessed to marriages with Mrs A Townsend Conway Ark Mrs A E Milburn Fort Scott Kansas and Mrs Parker but said other claimants are adventresses The judge sentenced him to three years in the penitentiary

Police court actions postponed cases against 53 gamblers arrested over Saturday and Sunday nights. All are expected to plead guilty as raids led by Sergts. Warren Gibfin Schroeder targeted William Armitage Tobe Howe Williams Bostock Lewis Harris and William Kissel sites. Forty nine gamblers were arrested and four held for keeping gambling houses while visits found no activity at Kissel’s Washington and Noblests site.
