In Yonkers a painful operation removed Mrs. Homer Baldwin s sightless eyes and one hand and finger from the other hand after injuries in the Hastings rail road wreck. Surgeons Dr. David Johns and Dr. Schopen performed the procedure to ease pain and aid skin grafting. Also reported died in Allegheny Pa Rev Thomas Sproul prominent in the Reformed Presbyterian church.
At 10 o clock Sergeant Kurtz saw a woman stagger into the street near Washington and West. She claimed to have taken morphine and was rushed to the station house where doctors worked to revive her. A feather bound Bible and a note to Fred were found in her pocketbook. The injured woman, identified as Annie Smith, is a familiar figure to police and remains in grave condition.
Berlin reports say Chancellor Caprivi has not resigned and works to smooth cabinet rifts by delaying the educational bill. The empress joins the Kaiser at Hubertusstock as Caprivi returns to Berlin after a palace interview. Mrs Ethel Osbourne is critically ill in Holloway jail.
