In Newport Kentucky Scott Jackson and Alonzo Walling were executed at 12 40 pm after Jackson cleared Walling of complicity and Gov Bradley refused a final reprieve. Details recount ceremonies, final statements, and the fatal drop amid a tense crowd and militia presence.
A late dispatch from Gov. Bradley instructed Sheriff Plummer to proceed with Jacksons’ execution and not hang Walling until a statement is received. The message then ordered the execution to go forward, ending a tense delay.
In the early hours, condemned men faced execution after nine. They spent the night well, appeared in better spirits, and prepared for the final march. Rev. Lee led prayers as hymns were sung, a message from Emma Roberts urged mercy, and Walling pleaded for a 30 day respite from Mayor Rhinock.

Stella Coffman an 18 year old prisoner from Greenfield claims a new tale about the Pearl Bryan case. She alleges Pearl Bryan is in Canada and the body found is Grace Bryan, Pearl’s cousin. She says she was with Walling and Jackson when the murder occurred. Her story is hoax.
