Free public employment bureaus urged by Carpenter union
The March Carpenter urges free employment bureaus funded by city or state. It cites Los Angeles’ popular public office as proving useful in reducing idle labor. The Washington Bureau of Labor supports the idea to shield job seekers from unscrupulous schemes, noting an unskilled labor surplus in small towns. A small fee of 25 to 50 cents would keep the office self supporting.
