Horror on the Ville de St Nazaire tragedy claims few saved
The French steamship Ville de St Nazaire, bound for the West Indies, foundered off Cape Hatteras after a storm. Of nearly 100 passengers and crew, only four were saved after a week adrift in open boats. Survivors report scorched minds, hunger and thirst, and a mother and children among the dead. Captain Berry and other officers bore the ordeal as the four saved were brought to Perth Amboy aboard a schooner.

He leaves a widow and two children and lived with his parents Hilward Dorey a druggist at College and Christian ages is his brother. It is believed he went to Chicago seeking work and suffered a fit of insanity that ended his life.
