A Chicago precinct faces scrutiny as Benjamin Tanzy, a mulatto barber appointed as a patrolman, is alleged by three young women to have accosted them on city streets. Investigations show alibis for several incidents, while officials insist the board's inquiry is ongoing.
Several Democratic representatives refuse to sign a petition urging Gov Durbin to appoint James, a Democrat, to succeed Parks Martin as state tax commissioner. Republicans back James, who is expected to get the post, while Democrats fault his loyalty and oppose his influence on party lines. Martin faced opposition from many Democrats after succeeding Buskirk, whose term ends in May.

The Indiana senate on Thursday introduced another railroad consolidation bill. Senator Brooks plans to seek unanimous consent to pass it under suspension of rules. The measure requires consolidating roads to remain Indiana corporations to bypass the governor's veto objections over foreign ownership and state court jurisdiction. Support from other senators appeared unlikely.
Denver report states that Arapahoe county teachers may play cards including poker on Sundays. Miss Emma Herey superintendent of schools concluded that card playing does not bar a teacher from employment. She noted the school law does not regulate personal conduct of teachers.
Abraham L. Canary filed suit for $5,000 damages against Elias B. Swift alleging debauchery of his wife and alienation of affections. Swift married Mrs. Canary on Tuesday after Canary’s divorce and prior affairs had named Swift as corespondent after Canary’s own divorce earlier. The Canarys were married in 1888.
Annie Bell, a former nurse at Dr Sterne’s sanitarium, accuses Frank Hamilton of grand larceny after he allegedly stole her $250 purse and delayed their Chicago wedding. Hamilton was arrested after a decoy letter led detectives to a Denver departure plan. He denies the theft and insists on explaining the postponed marriage.
NORFOLK March 7 A mutinous clash erupted on the revenue cutter Onondaga when sailors angry over a month without liberty attacked Capt C W Dehart after his order to arrest them by local police. The captain was rescued and the mutineers were ironed. Quartermaster Nils Alsen was dishonorably discharged.
Fears arise that the steamer Numidian from Liverpool carrying Strathcona's horse may have met with trouble. The vessel was due on Sunday but has not yet arrived. Strathcona's horse previously served in South Africa.

In Brownsburg Indiana Earl Forshee was attacked by a wolf near Greenlawn cemetery while returning from lodge. A hunting party led by James Van Benthuysen pursued the beast along Coon river, two hounds killed, wolf escaped. Another hunt planned for Thursday night.

John H. Pryfogle receives 32 in damages from Albert C. Elster for depriving him of his daughter for months while Elster worked at the guardians home. The court ruled the board, not Elster, responsible after an adoption. Pryfogle and his wife, with three children, were jailed for vagrancy in Indianapolis years ago due to a failed railroad trip. The eldest daughter’s long separation allegedly damaged her mind. Heimbold to pursue custody from the Guardians. Pryfogle, poor but honest, lives west of the city.
