Adriel S Kingsley died at 415 New Jersey Street Indianapolis aged years. Born in New York he moved to Indiana boarding Switzerland County near Jacksonville then to Indianapolis in 1855. An abolitionist schoolteacher, he faced mob danger from Kentuckians. Kingsley managed hotels in Indianapolis and later ran a creamery, cooked for soldiers during the Civil War, and wrote against doctors in Medical science fraud. He was a temperance ally, tobacco foe, and self educated author of anti physician tracts. Surviving wife and seven years since golden wedding marked his family life. Funeral Tuesday at his house with services.
Taken to Ohio for trial, Judge Baker issued an order transferring J. C. Burgess of Indianapolis from this district to the southern Ohio district where he is indicted for using the mails to defraud. Burgess was indicted by the federal grand jury here, arrested, and on a plea of guilty was released on his own recognizance. J. S. Thurman and Ellis Silvius were indicted and released on bond.
David Harris aged 90 died Monday at 8 am at his son Hiram D. Harris’s home 1220 Spann Ave after a long illness. Born in Virginia to a hatter, he moved to Bloomington Indiana over 50 years ago, later relocating to Indianapolis. He was a carpenter who worked until age 80, weighed about 200 pounds, and belonged to the M BE Church. Funeral services by Rev. Lathrop will be held at home Tuesday afternoon. burial will be at Crown Hill. He had been a Whig in youth and a later prohibitionist, and left no known living relatives.
Forecast for Indianapolis and vicinity calls for fair weather over the next thirty six hours ending eight p m Tuesday. Temperature readings show at seven o clock Monday morning were below freezing and at noon Monday were fifty five with a sharp drop to thirty seven by two p m.
