Police judge Stubbs and about a dozen attorneys urge funding for a pauper attorney in police court. They argue it will aid defense for indigent prisoners, speed case handling, deter crime, and reduce expensive trials in higher courts.
In a criminal court Judge Alford sentences 11 year old Virgil Mortenbeck to the reform school after he refuses to promise to attend school and quit smoking. His mother, a widow, pleads tearfully but the boy remains unmoved and is found guilty of incorrigibility.
Sam Blackwell, a young Black man, confessed to stealing wine and claimed a Kentucky avenue man gave it to him. Judge Stubbs sent patrol to locate the man but found none. Blackwell admitted naming the wrong person, was sent to the workhouse, and fined $2 plus costs with 90 days.
Supreme Court heard a Thursday appeal by the People's National Bank of Princeton concerning county auditors and assessors rights to inspect a bank deposit account for taxation. Co F S Neal heads the Endowment rank of the K of P in Indianapolis to correct the Endowment rank report filed with the Secretary of State. The order shows a surplus of 105000 and a deficit of 325000 on June 1 1901. Neal reports satisfactory affairs with business at about three quarters of last year and February output around 1000000. The order has gained about 1100 members since January 1.
