In Laurel Delaware on June 26 a fire razed the town after a gambling dispute in the Horsey building. Rumors say a man was killed to cover the crime and 114 buildings burned leaving over 100 residents homeless. Only four stores remain and no hotel or public house exists, with charity supporting the displaced.
Fire gutted the four upper floors of a six story brick building at Pearl and Purchasest, origin in the rear of the American wool and cotton Reporter office. Building losses are about 100000 with occupants facing 150000 in losses.
The Cleveland strike ends after three weeks as cars run again. The peace committee drafted settlement articles signed by both sides. Non union crews faced losses and some left after rotten egg incidents, while most workers gain tacit union recognition and arbitration of differences.
Rev Delong of St Pauls M E Church North Indianapolis argued Sunday the street car company should accept church tickets for a Wednesday picnic. Secretary Millholland said cars are chartered for a price and fare is set by agreement, allowing crowds and a 25 cent fare if desired. The church has been negotiating with the company for chartered cars.
Willie Brooks, the man arrested last week for stealing $65, was rearrested Sunday night on suspicion of stealing two bottles of catsup. He claimed the bottles were taken to use against the restaurant proprietor after threats. The court discharged him with a warning about risking penitentiary.
An attempted arson at Ringolcky’s rag shop on West Washington Street failed when the blaze was discovered early Sunday morning. An empty coal oil bottle lay nearby and rags were soaked in oil. A man was seen fleeing the scene just before detection.
Fourteen craps players, both white and colored, from Indianapolis were found at a Sunday picnic near Dietz's grove east of Irvington. One man Joseph Shirley, a colored man, was arrested. the others escaped. Irvington deputy marshals assisted in the roundup. Shirley pleaded guilty and remains in jail.

A street preacher known as Cyclone Johnson drew police attention at the corner of Kentucky avenue and Washington street. After his arrest threat, a Thursday court date was set with Henry Spaan to defend him as supporters raised $15 for his appearance.

The board sees reduced danger and Bourbon in Marshall county seeks to lift the quarantine while the state board considers it.
John A. Bassett long served in L. S. Ayres department work and died Sunday at 10 am at his home 712 Kb Twenty-fifth st after six months of illness. He was 48 and active in Masonry Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias. A widow survives. Funeral from his residence Tuesday at 2 pm.
