Off Santiago on June 2 via Kingston on June 21 the United States fleet carrying 36 transports arrived ten miles off Admiral Sampson’s fleet at 12 10 PM. Gen Shafter plans a landing above or below Santiago or at Guantanamo as Marines hold the road. The invasion force totals about 15 507 officers and men including infantry regiments, cavalry, artillery, engineers and signal corps.
The Pall Mall Gazette Paris corresp says peace negotiations between Spain and the United States are under discussion in chancelleries.
