A woman identified as Mrs J W Beechie reportedly killed herself at about 4 AM escaping relatives and leaping onto Pennsylvania Street near Shortridge High School after attempting to jump into cisterns. Police described the incident as a suicide and confiscated accompanying items from the scene.
Mrs J W Beechey, 45, of 115 W North st, threw herself in front of a northbound Pennsylvania street car near the Ortridge High entrance at 4 AM Wednesday. She died instantly. husband and son had found her fleeing home weeks earlier amid reported mental distress. Motorman Toner and conductor Ramsey stopped the car quickly but could not avert the fatal impact. The body was taken to the city morgue. Dr Lacey Taylor called the death instantaneous.
In criminal court Mrs John T Chambers said she would move with her five children and husband to Bedford if a position existed there, preventing her husband’s witch desertion trial. He had been arrested in Bedford and brought back. she previously refused to leave Indianapolis. The judge continued the case to allow a possible relocation to Bedford.
Rome reports Pope Pius XI turns 74 today, born June 2, 1835 at Riese. In keeping with his wishes the celebration is private and low key.
State Board of Education used word counts to argue over Howe readers versus Alexander readers. Indianapolis superintendent Kendall led the plan, claiming more words mean higher production cost and price. Howe primers totaled 216 250 words across five books compared to Alexander readings.

Stalnaker outlined totals to Emmerich, Paul C. Gaul, and Harry C. Prinzler, with partial repayments expected from Prinzler and bonds covering the rest. Gaul denied any criminal intent, claiming no dealings with Prinzler and that any overdraft would be honest and resolved.
Mrs James E Martin Jr widow of a prominent club man must live on $15 750 yearly. She asked for a 350 support allowance for herself and her child but the referee cut it to the amount stated.
Captain Thomas Quinn a longtime Indianapolis fire department member died at his home on 15 West Thirty Fourth Street. Retired since 1907 due to total disability from heart trouble he had served from 1874 to 1893 as captain of the hook and ladder truck at the Fifteenth Street station. He leaves two sons and six daughters.
New York Life Insurance informs Indiana auditor it reached a 150 million annual business limit under state law. The move ends further business this year and cuts fourteen Indiana agents from employment as licenses are canceled.
Frank W. Olin of the Home for Aged Women requests police aid to pursue a man active in the south city posing as an authorized collector. The impostor, described as elderly, carries a typewritten letter and is well dressed.
The Panama libel hearing on whether to move editor Charles R. Williams and owner Delavan Smith of the Indianapolis News to answer criminal libel charges was postponed to October 1.
