Death row bigamist Hoch spared as funds raise
Chicago July 26 Johann Hoch the bigamist awaiting execution for the murder of wife Welker-Hoek was reprieved as Dr L N Montgomery and Mrs May Wilson contributed the final 1100 needed to appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court. Gov. Deneen delayed Hoch until Aug 25 as money was found and a stay was granted to seek relief. Hoch slept well, dressed for the gallows, and showed little emotion aside from a mute defiance toward “Justice” as the delay unfolded.
