Pittsburg July 28 with the opening of the second day's session of the coal operators meeting in quarter sessions a hopeful tone grows among uniformity backers led by J B Zerbe and W P Murray. They plan a 30 day adjournment to secure the remaining signatures and a 95 percent consensus, then a final general meeting to declare success or failure. Read supports arbitration and uniformity but criticizes the Tuesday plan, urging a conference between operators and miners to settle the strike fairly. The report also notes local items including civic notes, a court fine, a will probate, and social events.
Mayor Taggart and Supt Colbert left Indianapolis at noon to seek a pardon for James Burton in Nashville Tennessee. Burton, serving six years for larceny, has confessed to killing Wireman Frank Redmond. A petition was presented to Governor Taylor for Burton’s pardon with an agreement to meet the governor.

A Klondike steamer is said wrecked, threatening food supply. Separate notes tell of a Missouri man claiming a large fortune and another Alaskan discovery by a missing Altoona resident's brother.

MACGN Ga July 28 The Ryder family anger at Talbot county leads to Dr W L Ryder’s burial in a city coffin after his lynching. His sister Mrs Mc Arthur had the casket moved from Talbot to be buried in a local coffin. The undertaker refuses the Talbot coffin and sues for damages. The lynching case will go before the Talbot grand jury for possible conviction.
The Board of Public Works shifts to a new plan allowing McCarthy to defend against non compliance fines. He will be notified two days before actions and must appear before the board. McCarthy says he can prove the city at fault over crematory conditions and lack of enforcement of garbage receptacle ordinances.
Cincinnati dispatch reports John R. McLean demanded gold coin for both principal and interest on 1889 bonds issued to the Columbia Athletic Club of Washington for a clubhouse project worth 79000. The club was to pay the debt by March 1, 1969 in gold coin and issue bonds bearing McLean’s name. Police raided Lombard block gambling den. seven men arrested after naming several associates.

Daniel B. Walters a Big Four brake man was killed Tuesday afternoon near the Acton camp grounds while uncoupling cars. His foot caught in a frog and his body was mangled. It was his first trip after a five month lay-off. He lived at 33 Prospect St with his wife and one child.
In a Paris interview Marquis Ito former Japanese prime minister rejects war with the United States over Hawaii and says the Hawaiian question will be settled peacefully. He notes Japanese sympathy for Americans and asserts Tokyo will protect its subjects while tariff policy fuels friction.
Over the last 15 months Indianapolis banks report total resources up by 2.26 million to 10 million in deposits, loans and discounts up 0.5 million, and cash and exchange up 2 million. Reports say banks are in tip-top shape with signs of upcoming prosperity.
Attorneys Frank Burke and John W. Kern who prosecuted Theodore P. Haughey in federal court have signed a petition to the president seeking clemency. The petitions are widely signed in Indianapolis and it is believed President McKinney may grant the elderly prisoner liberty.
Crowds gathered as the Young People’s Society of Christian Endeavor conducted services at Bethany park on Wednesday with youths dominating speeches and planning provisions in the beta dining room. Tuesday’s program featured Mrs. Jessie Brown Pounds of Indianapolis W F McCauley of Ohio Henry E F Pritchard of Indianapolis and Miss Mattie Boetier of Cincinnati. Train arrivals bring new visitors and cottages and hotels are filling rapidly.
Tuesday afternoon the Pentecost band in convention at Broad Ripple elected officers. Rev. Thes. H. Nelson of Indianapolis was named superintendent, with Mrs. Flora B. Nelson as assistant superintendent. Rev. G. E. Bula, also of Indianapolis, was chosen editor, and Miss Hattie Cone of Lovington TH named division reader. Other officers include Miss Minnie Roberto of Greenfield, Peter Hanson of Sherburne, and Mrs. Elizabeth Tucker of Indianapolis as matron.
